Dharma — daily Hindu spirituality companion

Last updated 5 September 2026

Dharma does not collect any of your data. There is no account, no server, and no analytics. Nothing you write, read or practise is transmitted anywhere. The app works fully offline.

What stays on your device

Everything. Specifically:

If you have iCloud Backup switched on, your journal is included in your iPhone's normal device backup, exactly like any other app's data — so it survives changing phones. Dharma does not sync it separately. That backup is your own, governed by Apple's iCloud terms; neither the developer nor anyone else can read it.

Location

If you use the Muhurat feature, Dharma asks for your approximate location (accurate to roughly 3 km) to calculate local sunrise, sunset and auspicious times. These are computed on your device. Your location is never transmitted, stored on any server, or shared. You can decline and the rest of the app works normally.

Apple Health

If you connect Apple Health, completed meditation is written as Mindful Minutes so it appears in your Mindfulness ring. Access is write-only — Dharma never reads any health data. You can decline or revoke this at any time in the Health app.

The Dharma Guide

Questions you ask are answered from content bundled inside the app. On devices that support Apple Intelligence, Apple's on-device model may help phrase the answer. In both cases your questions never leave your iPhone. No AI provider, and no server, receives anything you type.

Analytics and tracking

There are none. Dharma contains no analytics SDK, no advertising, no tracking identifiers, and no third-party services of any kind. It does not track you across apps or websites.

Content updates

A future version may download updated verses, festival dates or lessons so corrections reach you without an App Store update. That is a download only — no information about you is sent in order to receive it. This is currently disabled.

Children

Dharma is suitable for general audiences and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.

Deleting your data

Open Settings inside the app to delete your journal or reset everything. Deleting the app removes all local data. To keep it out of your iCloud backup, turn Dharma off under iCloud → iCloud Backup in your iOS settings.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date above will be updated. Any version that begins collecting data would say so here plainly, and ask you first.
